Co-producer Lionel Richie has noted that Janet Jackson will be singing Michael Jackson's part, but wouldn't be recording with everyone else in the studio.... Apparently Beyonce, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga didn't show up either, but I'm sure they'll record at a later date too....

Did anybody else watch the original and say 'Holy crap! That's Dan Aykroyd!' I guess Vince Vaughn's taking his spot....

Here's my question..... I understand that this will raise a gigantic amount of money for charity, and that it's coming from a good place.... But you have the most talented stars in music today, couldn't you get some of them together to put together a new song? I'm sure that Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake could get together to write an amazing new song.... I think 'We Are The World' is one of those classics that shouldn't be touched....

  1. Why NOT just write a new song? Because of Michael Jackson's death, I guess... But really, is anyone impressed by jamming 89 celebrities into a room to sing an old song together? What's the point of having so many different people, it's not like you'll be able to pick out any one voice. Eh, the whole thing annoys me.

  2. Maybe they are betting on the fact that the song is a classic. Maybe they think it will bring back memories for those of us who around when the original was released and then we will release more money for charity.

  3. I understand that the song is a classic.... I loved the original, but I think it was perfect the way it was.... I'm all for raising money for charity, and I think the remake of 'We Are The World' will raise a lot of money.... However, I think an original song might raise more....

  5. What is a Justin Bieber? Seriously can someone just punt that little douche into the Grand Canyon? I'll give you ten bucks.

  6. I'm not sure about Justin Bieber.... Of course I wasn't sure about the Jonas Brothers or Twilight, but apparently everybody else loves them....

  7. I totally get what you mean Michael, the song worked. A new one written in the same spirit, would have greater impact. After all, great or not, it is an old song. If the trend were to continue it would become the theme song of strife, and easier to desensitize from, as opposed to a new song/call to rally.
