Life Imitates Art - The Lion King In Real Life

This post makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.... This is the first, but probably not the last, Life Imitates Art post.... I'm sure this would work with many animated films, but I'll start with 'The Lion King'....

Mufasa and Simba

Timon and Pumbaa

Simba and Nala

  4. That is pretty cool. I think the one with Timon and Pumbaa is awesome. I would have never pictured a meerkat and a warthog actually together.

  7. Okay, that is reeeally freaking cute...particularly Timon and Pumbaa there. Who knew??

My nitpicky self though has to point out that... not Simba and Nala. I was thinking it was Kiara and Kovu, but it's definitely not Kovu, and actually I think it's Nala and someone else...where'd you get that picture?

And the real life lion cubs are looking a little edgy..

  8. WOW! That's so awesome.

Side note... as you know, there always is one... I once called into a local radio station who posed the question "who was the voice of Simba" or something. I knew it because, duh, I write about teen idols. JTT! JONATHAN TAYLOR THOMAS! The DJ was like, "um, how did you know that?" I was like, "Er, I'm the Associate Editor of SuperTeen magazine." Ha ha.

  9. I found the first photo on reddit, and thought there had to be more out there somewhere....

I need to go on a safari.... Or get a pet lion.... I'm not sure which one yet....

@Ally - Did you win a prize for answering that question?

  10. I was trying to figure out what that last picture was too, I was thinking maybe it's from a Lion King TV show? Or the Lion King 1.5 movie, maybe? I never saw that one, so I don't know.

  11. NO! In fact I even mailed them copies of the magazine in hopes they'd mention us on the air again or something PR like. I don't think it was actually a contest, I think the DJs in the morning were back and forth arguing trying to remember who it was. This was back in like 1997. They probably didn't have the internet set up at their DJ station.

  20. Looks like the "Simba and Nala" is fanart of Sarafina and Taka (Scar) as cubs. Still, absolutely adorable!

  22. Some of the creators of Lion King went to Africa for a production research trip, and back at home, some zoo took some real lions in to the studio so the animators could replicate real lion behaviours.
